Sourav Chandidas Ganguly
(Captain)

He marked his Test debut in 1996 with a century at Lord's - he became only the third batsman after Australia's Harry Graham and England's John Hampshire to achieve that feat.

Ganguly's 183 against Sri Lanka at Taunton in World Cup 1999 is the highest score by an Indian in the World Cup.

With Tendulkar, Ganguly shared the world record opening stand in one-day internationals when they put on 252 against Sri Lanka in the Singer-Akai Nidahas Trophy final in 1997-98. He also shared a World Cup record stand for any wicket when he added 324 runs with Rahul Dravid against Sri Lanka at Taunton in 1999.

As captain, he has led India to Test victories in four away games - in Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. In March 2001, he became the third captain after Englishmen AE Stoddart and Mike Brearley to lead a team to victory after following on when India beat Australia in Kolkata.

Was chosen for the Arjuna Award in 1997.

Has a 1.5km road in Rajarhat in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal named after him.
